Detroit School Focuses on Anti Girl Bullying Campaign

The 2004 movie “Mean Girls” starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams has been a pop culture hit since it released. The movie focuses on the viciousness among girls in school –which is a very big issue. Ten years later and it’s still an issue. About 160,000 children miss school on a daily basis because they’re afraid of being bullied.

For this reason, a school in Detroit has decided to put their energy into an anti-bullying campaign whose mission is to teach girls how to deal with bullies, how to handle conflict and how to not be a bystander when witnessing bullying. The Ferndale Public School system paired with Ferndale Youth Assistance has started their “Girls Stand Strong” 4 week anti-bullying program. The program provides girls with methods to react to bullying as well as a plan designed to prevent it in the first place.
