A spurt of violent thunderstorms sparked the recent development of tornadoes that have ended up sweeping the central and southern areas of the United States. As of May 2nd, there were 30 tornadoes reported in seven states according to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The most fatal of them all was a half-mile wide tornado that went through small towns in Arkansas and destroying everything in its path. The death toll was high as well as reports of major damage.
When living in an area where there
is an imminent threat of natural disasters, it’s important to be aware of the
safety precautions you must take to avoid getting injured or becoming the
victim of an accident. If you have a basement, seek shelter under a sturdy
object. If you live in a house with no basement, seek shelter in the first
floor in the most interior room, like a closet or bathroom. Stay as far away
from the windows as possible. It’s very important that you do not seek shelter
in a vehicle. That is one of the last things you want to do as vehicles are
generally tossed into the air and end up a pile of junk when a tornado rolls
through. Stay as safe as possible and know where the nearest shelter is if you
don’t have a properly safe home.
