GM Fixes Ignition Switch Defect

In February of this year, GM had to recall about 2.6 million vehicles due to an ignition switch defect. The defect occurred when the switch would slip out of the “run” position and shut down the entire engine. As a result of this one defect, 13 total deaths occurred.

According to the company, the problem was misdiagnosed and those who were responsible didn’t act with enough urgency to fix the issue. Because of that, 15 employees were let go and GM had to pay $35 million in fines –the largest fine ever reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration –for failing to report the problem. Luckily, the company is working tirelessly to resolve the issue and pay the victims of this negligence and their families the proper compensation for what occurred.
