Detroit Downriver Linked Greenways Initiative

Bicyclists, walkers and runners are excited to find out that construction is set to start this fall on two greenways in Detroit. This project, called The Downriver Linked Greenways Initiative will affect 21 communities in the city of Detroit and its residents. The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund is funding a project that will provide trail and habitat improvements at Elizabeth Park and help link the park to downtown Trenton. Then, another project will fund the connection between Elizabeth Park and the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge to the Refuge Gateway of the Detroit River International Wild refuge by building a trail along Jefferson Avenue. These updates will allow those in Detroit to travel freely through certain areas of the city if they don’t have access to a vehicle. Linking these locations will help promote healthy activity and allow those who bike, walk or run through the city to be able to navigate through some of the most beautiful spots Detroit has to offer!
